Janko Tipsarevic out of Australian Open due to injury
Former top-10 player Janko Tipsarevic has withdrawn from the Australian Open due to a foot injury.
The Serbian has endured several difficult years with injury, including missing 2014 followin foot surgery.
Tipsarevic, 31, played just 13 competitive singles matches last year after returning, with his last appearance at the US Open.
A former world number eight, he has slipped to 410th in the world as a result of his inactivity.
He was expected to take his place at Melbourne Park with a protected ranking, but his withdrawal was confirmed on Wednesday.
Tunisian Malek Jaziri takes his place in the main draw.
"#Tipsarevic has withdrawn from the #AusOpen with continuing foot injury, moving Jaziri into the main draw," a tweet from the tournament's account read.
Tipsarevic reached the fourth round in his last appearance at the year's first grand slam in 2013.
