Woakes in for Stokes for England-Sri Lanka second Test

England all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the second Test with Sri Lanka because of a knee injury.

Stokes sustained the blow on day two of the first Test at Headingley, which England won by an innings and 88 runs as Sri Lanka were twice bowled out for under 120.

And he will not feature as England aim to clinch a series victory at Chester-le-Street, home of his county side Durham, after being omitted from the squad following a scan.

Warwickshire seamer Chris Woakes comes into the squad in places of Stokes - who will see a consultant on Tuesday - and is set to return to the Test XI having featured twice in England's series win in South Africa.

Woakes has played six Tests in his career, taking eight wickets at an average of 63.75.

He will look to improve those figures against a Sri Lanka side that has struggled to adapt to English conditions when the second Test starts on Friday.
