Our local league is not attractive
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye laments over the poor state of the Ghana Premier League.

There has been a frosty relationship between the FA and the Sports Ministry since Nii Lante was appointed Sports Minister in February this year, with some claiming he has a personal score to settle with the football governing body, an allegations he has denied several times.
According to him, his sole aim is to repair the image of football in the country.
“When the president swore me in as the Sports Minister, he told me to raise the image of football in Ghana," the former football commentator told Asempa FM.

"But people think I have problem with the FA. No, I don't, I only want the right things to be done.
“I have followed football and played football even before the professional era so when I am talking, I am not ignorant about what I am saying." He said.
The Ghana Premier League is sponsor-less, and Nii Lantey claims the unattractive nature of the league is the reason why the FA has struggled to secure a headline sponsor.
"The truth is that our local league is not attractive and it is sinking. If they say it is one of the best, why are they not getting sponsorship?
“I am ready to help. I am ready to to ensure tax-free for corporate entities ready to sponsor sporting disciplines in the country. We need sponsors to help our game and we had that for our Olympic team. The government did not give them anything but we got all the money they needed to participate in the Games. We had all the money from corporate entities and our ambassadors also helped us to mobilize some funds," he revealed

On allegations that he has an agenda against the Ghana FA President, Nii Lantey said:
“There are some things that I have been quiet about and I don’t want to talk about them because I was once a GHALCA representative before Kwesi Nyantakyi came so why will I have problem with Nyantakyi at this time?
“I don’t agree Ghana spending $1,000,000 only for the Black Stars so when I came I had to reduce it. The truth is that we don’t have money.
“I don’t care who the FA president is -- my sole aim is to work with anybody at the FA to raise the image of Ghana football higher,” Nii Lantey added.
