Blue Jackets end Sabres' winning streak
The Columbus Blue Jackets halted the Buffalo Sabres' three-game winning streak after a 4-1 victory in the NHL on Friday.
Both teams have long been out of contention for a play-off spot but put on an entertaining game at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo.
Matt Calvert scored for the Blue Jackets to give them the lead with 75 seconds left to play in the first period.
Sam Reinhart struck back for the Sabres 13 minutes, 37 seconds into the second period on the power play but the Blue Jackets did not take long to regain the lead.
Goals 2:09 apart from Nick Foligno and Dalton Prout put the visitors back in control, before Brandon Saad added a fourth in the final period to seal the win.
Saad's goal means he tied Boone Jenner on the Blue Jackets' scoring charts, marking the first time Columbus has had two players score 30 goals in one season.
Despite going down, the loss means the Sabres - who finished last in the standings in each of the past two seasons - can finish no lower than 22nd.
