Azhar Mahmood appointed Pakistan bowling coach

Cricket: Azhar Mahmood had previously been called upon to work with Pakistan's bowlers and will now take up the position on a full-time basis.

Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has been appointed as his country's full-time bowling coach on a two-year contract.

The appointment of the 41-year-old, who played in 21 Tests and 143 one-day internationals between 1996 and 2007, was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday as it confirmed the team management for an upcoming tour of New Zealand.

Azhar had previously enjoyed several short-term stints as part of Pakistan's coaching set-up, while continuing his playing career with English county Surrey.

A Twenty20 specialist at the back end of his career, he will now look to bring the best out of the likes of Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and Rahat Ali when Pakistan playÂ Tests in Christchurch and HamiltonÂ later this month.

Misbah-ul-Haq's side are in Test action against West Indies in Sharjah, having sealed a series victory prior to the third and final match.
