Dutchman smacks in one-bounce ace at PGA

The 31-year-old Dutchman was seven-over for his opening round at the year's final major after starting on the 10th tee alongside Americans.

Joost Luiten of the Netherlands made the first hole-in-one at a PGA Championship since 2013 on Thursday at Quail Hollow with a one-bounce ace at the par-3 fourth hole.

The 31-year-old Dutchman was seven-over for his opening round at the year's final major after starting on the 10th tee alongside Americans Russell Henley and Paul Claxton.

But Luiten made his shot of the day from 181 yards at the fourth, the ball bouncing once and then striking the flagstick on its way to dropping into the cup.

It was the first ace since South Africa's Tim Clark hit one four years ago at Oak Hill. No European had scored an ace in the PGA since Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson in 2008 at Oakland Hills.

Luiten had four bogeys and a triple-bogey 7 at the 16th earlier in his round. His only top-10 effort since winning last year's KLM Open was a share of seven at the European Tour's Lyoness Open.
