Lara Gut was crowned??FIS Alpine Skiing??World Cup overall champion for the first time and??Wendy Holdener won in??Lenzerheide to take the combined crystal globe on a memorable day for Swiss skiing.

Gut knew she could become the first Swiss woman for 21 years to take the overall title on Sunday with Viktoria Rebensburg not competing and??Lindsey Vonn out for the season due to a knee injury.

And the 24-year-old secured third place to stretch her lead over??Rebensburg to 355 points, so the German is unable to catch her given she will only compete in three of the last four races of the season.

Not since??Vreni Schneider's success in 1995 had a female Swiss skier won the overall title, but Gut ended that long wait after finishing ninth in the slalom and claiming a podium finish after an impressive run in the super-G.

Holdener was able to celebrate a first crystal globe after opening up a 0.49-second advantage over Michaela Kirchgasser following the a slalom race which was staged first rather than the super-G due to morning fog.

She then held her nerve following a delay due to further fog to seal the victory and a maiden title, with??Kirchgasser 0.46secs back in second place and Gut just 0.01secs slower than the Austrian over the two runs.

With??Rebensburg not competing in slalom events, she will head to St Moritz knowing her faint hopes of??over overhauling Gut are over.
