Odor fires for Rangers, Rockies down Diamondbacks

The Texas Rangers nearly squandered a seven-run lead but won their sixth straight to push their advantage over the Houston Astros.

The American League West-leading Texas Rangers moved to 12-2 against local rivals Houston Astros this MLB season with a powerful display of offense in a 10-8 win on Friday at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

For the third consecutive game, Rougned Odor homered for the Rangers, this time in a seven-run fourth inning.

It is his team-leading 28th home run of the season. Carlos Beltran and Jonathan Lucroy also went deep for the Rangers in their sixth straight victory.

A late show from the Colorado Rockies saw them defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 14-7, the Detroit Tigers edged the Kansas City Royals 7-6, and the Chicago White Sox got the better of the Minnesota Twins 11-4.

The Washington Nationals beat the New York Mets 4-1, the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 8-3, the Cincinnati Reds edged the St Louis Cardinals 3-2, and the Cleveland Indians were too good for the Miami Marlins 6-2.

The Baltimore Orioles shut out the New York Yankees in an 8-0 win, the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-4, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0.

The Chicago Cubs edged the San Francisco Giants 2-1, the Boston Red Sox thrashed the Oakland Athletics 16-2, the Seattle Mariners got past the Los Angeles Angels 11-8 and the San Diego Padres overcame the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2.

Cubs' Jon Lester fired a complete game, holding the Giants to just one run on three hits including 6.2 no-hit innings.

POLLOCK RETURNS

After missing the first five months of the season with a fractured elbow, Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock connected on his first home run since the injury.

SLEEPY SYNDERGAARD

After four swipes by the Nationals, Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard has now allowed 45 stolen bases this season, most by any pitcher since Hideo Nomo allowed 45 for the 2001 Red Sox.

Sticking with the theme, Reds speedster Billy Hamilton now has seven games with at least three stolen bases this season. That is the most since Rickey Henderson had 10 in 1988. By contrast, the Orioles, as a team, have just 15 stolen bases all year.
