NFL: Steelers too good for Redskins, 49ers win

Ben Roethlisberger was dominant as the Pittsburgh Steelers enjoyed a comfortable win in the NFL, while the San Francisco 49ers were also victorious.

As the Steelers kept Antonio Brown away from Josh Norman, the Pittsburgh receiver caught eight passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-16 Pittsburgh victory over the Washington Redskins.

Roethlisberger, meanwhile, threw for three TDs as part of his 300 yards at FedExField on Monday.

In a scrappy game, the 49ers were 28-0 winners against the Los Angeles Rams.

Carlos Hyde scored two touchdowns as part of his 88 yards on 23 carries for the 49ers.

Rams QB Case Keenum completed just 17 of 35 passes for 130 yards, with two interceptions.

SHAZIER SHIFTS MOMENTUM

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier intercepted Kirk Cousins in the third quarter and followed it with a nifty 51-yard return the other way to the Redskins' 10-yard line. The turnover served as the beginning of the blowout, leading to Brown's second touchdown catch to pad a 24-6 lead.

San Francisco ran up a 14-0 half-time lead on the Rams thanks to rushing scores from the running back duo of Hyde and Shaun Draughn. Hyde was the first to find the end zone with an 11-yard scamper in the first quarter - his first touchdown since week five last season - and Draughn followed suit from three yards out in the second quarter.

Roethlisberger finished 27 of 37 for 300 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries while filling in for the suspended Le'Veon Bell.

By completing the eight passes to Brown, Roethlisberger became the first quarterback in NFL history with at least 500 completions to three different receivers - Brown (502), Hines Ward (512) and Heath Miller (540). Roethlisberger also passed Hall of Famer Dan Fouts for 12th on the all-time passing yards list and moved past Hall of Famer Joe Montana to tie Vinny Testaverde for 12th on the all-time passing touchdowns list.

At 33, Williams became the oldest running back with at least 100 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in a game since Steelers Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis did it in 2005.

"It's always pretty good to dial his number," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said of Brown.

The Steelers are a popular pick to reach the Super Bowl and looked the part Monday while Roethlisberger played like the MVP-calibre quarterback many expect him to be.
