Top14: Racing defend Dan Carter, Joe Rokocoko

Dan Carter and Joe Rokocoko have been labelled "examples of good behaviour, generosity and ethics" in a Racing 92 statement.

Racing 92 have defended Dan Carter and Joe Rokocoko after reports in France suggested anomalies in their drug tests ahead of the Top 14 final.

French newspaper L'Equipe claimed the former All Blacks had returned samples containing corticosteroids ahead of June's 29-21 victory over Toulon.

The duos management company on Friday defended the pair, saying they had been granted therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs), which allow athletes to use banned substances if they have a genuine medical need.

Racing have also thrown their support behind Carter and Rokocoko, as well as Juan Imhoff who was also named, but claimed their treatments did not require TUEs.

A statement read: "[About] the information involving players of Racing 92 regarding various comments [and] central to these comments, the alleged use of steroids.

"Racing 92 would bring to the attention of the fans of the club, rugby and sport in general three comments.

"1 / We understand the stir caused by the word steroid. This word has strong emotional resonance as it may correspond to immoral and illegal behaviour. It can also correspond to known practices, legal, justified by medicine.

"Its use in the public domain should be controlled, and be used with great precaution.

"2 / Racing wants to assert with greater force than our ethics, our club, have nothing to do with illegal practices, we are on the side of law, ethics and love of the values of a clean sport. We are men, health and morality are two cardinal requirements.

"3 / All medical procedures performed on players cited by the media have been in the full respect of national and international anti-doping rules, both in terms of administrative procedures than medical. This is treatment by authorised route, provided in response to proven pathologies, several days before the Top 14 final and not requiring a TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption).

"Racing 92 commits collaboration with all relevant medical investigative authorities that the debate subsides and a full understanding is brought to the knowledge of all.

"All medical procedures are clear. Transparency will be total.

"We are with those who are fighting for a clean and respectful sport. Juan Imhoff, Joe Rokocoko, Dan Carter are everyday examples of behaviour, generosity and ethics."
