Lee Westwood will be given the chance to atone for a dismal opening-session performance, after being recalled to Europe's line-up for the Saturday fourballs at Hazeltine.
Clarke recalls Westwood for fourballs
Lee Westwood has been teamed with Danny Willett for Saturday's fourballs at the Ryder Cup, taking on JB Holmes and Ryan Moore.
Westwood was well below his best as he and Thomas Pieters suffered a 5 and 4 thrashing at the hands of Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar.
Yet the veteran Englishman - playing his 10th Ryder Cup - was called upon with Europe 6-5 down as the morning foursomes drew to a close, Sergio Garcia and Rafael Cabrera Bello threatening to steal an unlikely point against Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth in the final match.
Westwood will combine with Danny Willett to take on JB Holmes and Ryan Moore.
For the third session out of four, Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth - kept together throughout this competition - will come up against Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose, with their two matches on Friday having resulted in one win for each partnership.
Rory McIlroy and Pieters will be given the opportunity to earn a third win in succession, this time against Johnson and Brooks Koepka in Saturday's opening fourball contest.
The other match sees Phil Mickelson and Kuchar face Martin Kaymer and Sergio Garcia.
