Expect Ghana to win no medal at Tokyo 2020 if ...

Kwabena Yeboah believes that if the attitude of the nation towards the development of sports doesn’t change, Tokyo 2020 will be a fiasco.

None of Ghana’s 16 athletes that participated in the Rio 2016 Olympics managed to qualify for the next stage of any event.

And the ace journalist, who is now the President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) believes Ghana are not serious about the growth of sports in the country.

“Completely unprofessional to castigate the athletes. They are the last persons to blame. Successive governments have woefully failed Ghanaians. That is why in the state of the nation address sports is sometimes ignored," he told Happy FM.

“I left Brazil yesterday and by that time the meagre per-diems for the athletes had not arrive.

“If you want to win a medal you need a minimum of 8 years to do that. If this attitude persists, expect Ghana to win no medal at Tokyo Olympics.

“With the right investment, we can start expecting medals. I don't think as a nation we are serious about sports. It is a big joke. You don’t reap where you've not sowed.
