Konjuh through in Guangzhou

There were routine victories for the three seeds in action on day one of the Guangzhou International Women's Open.

Ana Konjuh, Alison Riske and Danka Kovinic all progressed to round two without dropping a set.

Third seed Konjuh was a 6-2 6-2 winner against Tatjana Maria, while Riske and Kovinic got the better of home hopes Xun Fang Ying and Wang Yafan respectively.

Zhu Lin ensured there was one Chinese victory on Monday, beating Lyudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine 6-4 6-3.

The day's other first-round match saw Jennifer Brady progress when qualifier Anastasia Pivovarova retired while trailing 4-0 in a deciding set.

At the Korea Open in Seoul, seventh seed Nicole Gibbs made an early exit at the hands of Mona Barthel, the German coming from behind to triumph 5-7 6-4 6-2.

Eighth seed Louisa Chirico beat Duan Ying-Ying 7-5 6-3, while Jana Cepelova, Sara Sorribes Tormo, Patricia Maria Tig and Camila Giorgi were also victorious.
