Svetlana Kuznetsova powered into the second round of the Tianjin Open, but Yulia Putintseva suffered an early exit at the hands of Wang Yafan.
Kuznetsova eases through, Putintseva out
Yulia Putintseva fell at the first hurdle in the Tianjin Open, but Svetlana Kuznetsova had no issues progressing.
Second seed Kuznetsova needed just an hour and five minutes to see off Pauline Parmentier 6-1 6-3.
But Putintseva fell at the first hurdle, the sixth seed stunned 3-6 6-3 6-4 by Chinese wildcard Wang.
There was no such fortune for Wang's fellow home hopes Zhang Kai-lin and Duan Ying-ying, who were defeated by Donna Vekic and Danka Kovinic respectively.
Chinese Taipei's Chang Kai-chen made short work of Vania King in a 6-1 6-2 win, while Lucie Hradecka was a straight-sets victor over Andrea Hlavackova in a battle between two Czech qualifiers.
