Eugenie Bouchard pulls out of Canada Fed Cup tie

Canada will be without Eugenie Bouchard in their Fed Cup clash with Belarus as she wants time to prepare for a busy year.

Eugenie Bouchard has opted against playing in Canada's Fed Cup tie against Belarus next week.

The 21-year-old suffered from concussion when she slipped in the locker room at the US Open last September and was still troubled towards the end of 2015.

Bouchard made an encouraging start to this season when she was runner-up in the WTA Hobart International, but lost to Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round of the Australian Open.

The world number 37 has now decided to skip the Fed Cup World Group II encounter in Quebec on February 6-7 in order to step up her preparations for the rest of the year.

She stated: "I am disappointed to not play Fed Cup next week in Quebec City.

"Because of my shortened off-season due to my injury, I am still working on getting back into top form and preparing for the rest of the year and to represent my country in the Olympics this summer.

"I always look forward to playing in front of my Canadian fans and wish my team-mates the best of luck."

Gabriela Dabrowski, Francoise Abanda, Carol Zhao and Aleksandra Wozniak have been named in the Canada team.
