Asamoah Gyan’s brace sink Sudan in Khartoum

The two goals sent his international goal tally for the Black Stars to 34 and edge him closer to becoming the all-time top scorer of Ghana.

Gyan registered the opener in the first half to put the noses of the visitors in front, but Sudan drew level through Mudathir Al Tayeb, after Richard Kissie Boateng had poorly fouled him in the 18-yard box and he made no mistake by scoring from the resultant spot kick.

Despite Ghana going down by one man, after Kissie Boateng was handed a red card, they continued to push for victory and their effort paid off when Asamoah Gyan headed home to restore the Black Stars' lead. The Al Ain forward leapt impressively above the Sudan defence to flick a header in from Harrison Afful's inswinging cross from the left-hand side.

Before Sulley Ali Muntari scored from a direct free kick to put the game beyond the reach of Sudan in the 89th minute.

Sudan's hopes of reaching the World Cup ended by the defeat, while the win made Ghana's bid to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil stronger and would book their ticket to the mundial for the 3rd period running.
