The spectrum is 4G or LTE. The 4G or LTE which is the Fourth Generation or Long Term Evolution, is the next stage in mobile network development and provides users with much faster data speeds than 3G is able to. “This is the result of the process which begun early this year in May.

Four companies submitted applications, however, three companies were unsuccessful in their efforts,” the regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA) announced today Wednesday December 2, 2015 in a press statement. It indicated that the transparent process which was conducted under high security was overseen and managed by an independent auctioneer, KPMG. “Scancom Limited, thus, have been provisionally awarded one lot of 2 x 10 MHz in the 800 MHz Band, pending their fulfilment of other requirements,” the NCA added.

The regulator also noted that it will in due course take a decision on the other unallocated block.

MTN told journalists last month that if it won the auction, its network was ready to deploy the technology across the country for the benefit of Ghanaians.
