Five Nigerians Arrested For Telecom Fraud

Five Nigerians were raided by the Accra Regional Police command over telecom fraud.

Five Nigerians, Chukwuka Okide, 25, a footballer; Chidebere Uka, alias Motion, 28; a businessman Ojiefo Jude, 25; Emmanuel Uka, alias Ogah, 39; and Chibuzor Andumanaka, 35, have been arrested for telecom fraud.

The five traders are suspected by the Police to have deceived 7,000 subscribers of mobile telecommunication giant MTN by sending them fraudulent text messages that said they had won a promotion.

According to the Police, an estimated 10,600 of MTN subscribers reported receiving the fraudulent text messages in 2014 while 1,400 cases of same have been recorded since the beginning of this year.
