The flight which will ply San Francisco to an unannounced city in India is the in the running for the world's longest nonstop flight.

The distance between the two cities - a whooping 14,000 kilometers!

Should the new route kick off, it would surpass Emirates' 17-hour-and-35-minute haul between Dubai and Panama which is scheduled to kick off February 1, 2016.

According to an Air India senior official, the new route would be flown by an efficient, twin-engine Boeing 777-200.

The current holder for the longest flight route is Qantas Flight 8 which goes from Dallas-Fort Worth to Sydney, Australia and has a flight time of about 16 hours.
