About 15 children have been sold by their parents to fishermen for prices between 12 and 22 dollars to engage in fishing on the Volta.

Fortunately for these kids, they were rescued over the weekend.
The rescue was successful due to collaboration among stakeholders, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Navy, and the Department of Social Welfare as well as nongovernmental organisation, Challenging heights.
According to Challenging heights, the children were being made to work on the Volta Lake by their slave masters after they were sold for $ 12 and $22 by their parents.

The rescued children comprised; three girls and 12 boys between the ages of five and 17 and were operating within the fishing villages of Nkwanta and Dambai.
The children have therefore been taken to the Rehabilitation Centre of Challenging Heights for the purposes of Recovery and Care.
