The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) needs a total change and restructuring.

This is according to a governance analyst Theodore Dzeble.

In an interview with Accra-based Starr FM, Dzeble said “everybody who is contributing to SSNIT right now should really be [nervous]. It is very worrying the way they are accounting for contributions.”

“Is it that they do not have competent staff to manage the place or what? It is just persisting. Today, there is a new variation inefficiency, tomorrow, there is a new version of incompetence and this continuous. It looks like there is no end to it and I  wonder if it is not time for a complete overhaul of the way SSNIT operates?” he questioned.

His comments come at the back of revelation that SSNIT procured a software system at $72million.

The Operation Business Suit (OBS) system which was purchased two years ago was aimed at enhancing the pension scheme’s service delivery to its customers in all its branches across the country.

However, concerns have been raised about the cost of the project considering the meager pensions paid the Trust's contributors.

The Economic and Organised Crime Organisation (EOCO) is currently investigating 5 SSNIT staff for their involvement in the acquisition of a BOS software for the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) at $72 million.
