Sports news network ESPN has announced that they will honouring Caitlyn Jenner with their Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY

Former American track and field athlete, Caitlyn Jenner formerly known as Bruce will be honoured with an award at the 2015 .

Olympic gold medalist, Bruce Jenner has been in the news all week following his gender transition to female and also her name to Caitlyn Jenner.

She drew world wide attention on undefined and appeared on the cover of in a photo set captured by Annie Leibovitz.

Sports news network ESPN on that same day also announced that she would be honoured with their Arthur Ashe Courage Award during the upcoming 15 July 2015 telecast of the ESPY ceremonies.

The ESPY is an event recognizing individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performances.

"Bruce [Jenner] has received many accolades over the years for being one of the greatest Olympians of our time, but The ESPYS are honored to celebrate Bruce becoming Caitlyn," a statement by ESPN executive producer Maura Mandt read.

"She has shown the courage to embrace a truth that had been hidden for years, and to embark on a journey that may not only give comfort to those facing similar circumstances, but can also help to educate people on the challenges that the transgender community faces."

Jenner in the statement also express gratitude for the award and revealed that he has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support since his gender transition became public.

"In the past few months, the overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world for my journey has been incredible," Jenner said.

"However, being honored with this award, which is named after one of my heroes, is truly special. For the first time this July, I will be able to stand as my true self in front of my peers."
