Everton have confirmed the signing of England International midfielder Tom Cleverley from Manchester United on a five year-year deal.

The 25-year-old's contract with Manchester United has expired and has agreed to join Everton on a free transfer.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and was thought that he would sign a permanent contract with the club.

Cleverley has  however chosen to join his former coach, Roberto Martinez who he played under at Wigan on another loan spell from United during the 2010-11 campaign.

"We are extremely delighted to be welcoming Tom and I can think of many reasons as to why our fans will enjoy Tom representing our football club," Martinez told Everton's official website.

"The most important one is that he is a perfect fit for what we are trying to build here as he has so much experience of playing in the Premier League and he still has his best years just ahead of him."

Cleverley according to underwent a medical at Everton's training ground on Friday, June 5.

The deal will be finalised on July 1 when his contract at United expires.
