Government’s quest to get its Free Senior High School (SHS) quickly started has led to the appointment of young actor, Abraham Attah as the project’s ambassador.

Though his core duties have not been officially revealed, it is believed that the multiple award-winning actor will be tasked to help sensitise his peers on the importance of education.

However, the decision to appoint Abraham Attah into such a role has not been received well by all factions. The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has particularly criticised the decision, insisting there are better candidates for the position than the young actor.

Others have also argued that his stay in the United States (US) means he does not qualify to be the ambassador of a project concerning Ghanaian students, with a host of other names popping up for the role.

Pulse.com.gh has compiled a list of some young Ghanaians who could equally have played the role of free SHS ambassador.

Clara Benson (Maame Serwaa)

Clara is a young talented actress who has taken the local scene by storm. Her starring roles in Kumawood movies make her one of the most popular youngsters in the country.

And with ‘influence’ considered as one of the requirements for the role of Free SHS Ambassador, Maame Serwaa would definitely not be found wanting. More crucially, the 16-year-old lives and schools in Ghana, and that should be able to facilitate her duties as a Free SHS ambassador.

She also has a marketable brand – just like Abraham Attah – that is appealing to investors, and will be able to rack in funds for the project.

Her story as a teen actor could also serve as one to inspire her peers who wish to toll the same line.

Pius Kyere

Perhaps one of the most brilliant brains to have ever emerged from the Ghana, Pius Kyere became the fifth successive Ghanaian to top the West African Examination Council (WAEC) awards.

Formerly of the St. James Seminary School, Pius was adjudged the best student in West Africa during the 2016 WASSCE.

He instantly became a household name in the country, being invited to several radio and television shows to share his success story. Pius could have been the perfect person for the role of Free SHS ambassador, especially after his exploits in academics.

There is no doubt that majority of his peers would love to be in his shoes, and what better way to inspire them by having him speak to them on a regular basis?

Rahim Banda

Child actor Rahim Banda is the son of music and movie producer, Ahmed Banda, popularly known as Bandex. The 16-year-old has earned plaudits for his matured performances in movies despite his young age.

The teen sensation is equally a popular figure among Ghanaians. In terms of intelligence and appeal, Rahim has a strong foundation, especially for the reputation he has built for himself. Again one advantage he will have over Abraham is that he also stays and schools in Ghana.

For a position that will require frequent movement to interact with his peers in deprived areas, Abraham will surly have difficulties combining that with his education in the US.

For Rahim, though, it will present less a problem.
