According to him, the EC has failed to get its priorities right, as it is yet to engage in what he calls 'major' processes such as the auditing of the voters' register.

"I would have thought that yes, it is important to experiment with so-called improvements to the biometric registration and so on. But the critical issue we should be addressing our minds and particularly the EC is the issue of auditing of the register. We need to know what framework is going to be used, how far we are going, how far we have come, what is left to be done and so on," Atik Mohammed said on Radio Ghana.

The Electoral Commission has said it will organise a pilot biometric registration exercise nationwide on Saturday, March 12, 2016.

The exercise will be held in some selected polling stations in all the ten regions, a statement signed by the Commission’s Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Amadu Sulley, has said.

“The Electoral Commission has upgraded the Biometric Registration Kits (BVR Kits) for the impending limited voter registration and subsequent registration exercises. The Commission is expected to undertake a pilot registration of voters to test the upgraded kits in selected polling stations in all the ten regions, on Saturday 12th March, 2016, from 9.00a.m. to 4.00p.m,” the statement added.

The EC has further urged prospective voters in the selected polling stations to fully participate in the exercise to ensure it is successful.
