3 test positive for HIV every week

Many young people in Ghana are testing positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, on a weekly basis.
He made this known during a health screening exercise to mark Ghana’s independence celebration at Adabraka in Accra.
“I believe the figures for the HIV prevalence rate must be revised because at the Adabraka Poly Clinic alone every week at least three persons test positive for HIV”, Dr. Bortey stated.
According to Dr. Bortey, the ages of the affected persons ranged from 8 to 45 years.
This scary revelation is in spite of reports that the virus was on the decline in the country.
Statistics indicate that as of 2015 the HIV prevalent rate was 1.37 per cent.
Meanwhile, the proportion of women living with HIV/AIDS was 57 per cent compared to 43 per cent for men.
Dr. Bortey believes education on the dangers of the virus should be intensified to curb the trend.
