According to the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, the government has acquired the disputed Nkonya and Alavanyo land for the establishment of a military training camp.

He said the move is to ensure that no side has access to the land and a reason to fight over it.

The Minister disclosed this on the Floor of Parliament on Thursday while contributing to a statement calling for lasting peace in the area.

The people of Alavanyo and Nkonya have for more than a century clashed over a piece of land.

The clashes have often claimed several lives in the area.

It will be recalled that earlier in May this year, a 15-year-old boy Prince Ankutse was shot dead. A middle-aged woman was also killed by some unknown persons recently.
