According to her, “not all men seen in public office are that great and if we were to use the same standard by which men get appointed, a lot more women will get in”.

She said that she believes there are a lot of qualified women who can equally perform such roles so they must be given the chance to do so in the country.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings also expressed worry that the Affirmative Action bill does not propose an equal ratio of men and women in positions of government even though females are more than males in the country.

“If we were to have a lot more women represented in the various arms of government as well as in the private sector and everywhere else, issues regarding domestic violence and sexual abuse and defilement of our young girls will not be as awful as they are right now,” she emphasised.

She further encouraged women across the country to “enrich their knowledge and allow others to also improve themselves to get to such heights”.

The MP was speaking at an event organised by Charterhouse.
