Obuobia told the media that it was "unfortunate" the debate could not come on.

“I’ve been here throughout and ever ready and prepared for this anywhere and any day because I believe in democracy. The people will be the best judges,” she added.

The two aspirants have waged fierce campaign as the December vote approaches with Obuobia slightly favoured to cause an upset.

The debate was being organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) with support from the Coalition for Domestic Elections Observers (CODEO) and the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana).

The debate organisers said they "surprise" Mrs Mendah could not show for up for such an “important national event.”
