Police arrest 50 Ekpu residents in dawn swoop over attack on police station
Police in the Western region have arrested 50 residents of Ekpu in the Half-Asini District during a dawn swoop Tuesday.
The swoop, which was led by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwasi Mensah-Duku comes on the back of an attack on the police station in the area after the alleged death of a suspect in custody.
The community members had accused the police of being behind the death of the inmate, Kwabena Assuah, who was alleged to have stolen a ladies dress and kept in cells beyond stipulation, the Daily Graphic reports.

But the police had indicated that the suspect died after being assaulted by cellmates.
The residents of the community who were not convinced by the explanation from the police subsequently attacked the police station two weeks ago and allegedly manhandled the police on duty.
Meanwhile, police say the residents arrested after the attack would be screened and culprits processed for prosecution.
The police officer said to have booked Kwabena Assuah’s case and kept him in custody upon his arrest, is also being investigated.
