Man pleads with court to marry defiled girl

A 29-year-old teacher caused a drama at the Juaso Circuit Court in the Ashanti region when he pleaded with the judge to allow him marry a 14-year-old girl he defiled.
Asiedu Daniel who teaches at a private school at Asankare in the AsanteAkim South District was standing trial for sexually abusing the teenage student, resulting in a pregnancy.
The court, however, refused his plea and sentenced him to 18 years imprisonment.
The victim currently is five months pregnant.
The teacher defiled the girl on three separate occasions when she visited him at his home during a Christmas convention last year.
The teenager was returning a book he gave her.
The District Police Commander, DSP Samuel Latebu says there are widespread reports about teachers sexually abusing pupils in the area.
He said the families settle all cases of abuse without recourse to the law.
The victims' families usually take monetary compensation and the case ended unsettled.
