Thousands are gathered at the independence square in the capital, Accra, to greet the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

And in order to relate with the Ghanaian folks who watch the Spanish Primera Division, the official Facebook page of La Liga has wished Ghanaians a happy independence day in the most interesting way possible.

The post pictures of the four Ghanaian players - Sulley Muntari, Thomas Partey, Emmanuel Boateng and Mubarak Wakaso - who ply their trade in the Spanish top flight division, with the caption:

In 1957, when the leaders of the former British colony of the Gold Coast sought an appropriate name for their newly independent state the first black African nation to gain its independence from colonial rule they named their new country after ancient Ghana.

The 61st Independence Day celebration is under the theme “Ghana Beyond Aid” and is expected to attract high profile personalities across Africa.
