Christian Atsu outshines all his country folk in Week 5 of the Premier League
It was another great week in the English Premier League and it was then we had the Ghanaian contingents being tasked to represent the motherland and their clubs.
The Ghanaian representation started early in the morning of Saturday, 18th of September, 2017. Jeffery Schlupp played 90 minutes as Crystal Palace lost once again to Southampton at home.
Crystal Palace went into week 5 with losing all their 4 premier league games and under new management with the experienced Roy Hodgson.
Hodgson’s arrival did not prevent Crystal Palace for losing a record 5th time without scoring a goal. They lost 1-0 at the Selhurst Park to Southampton.
Daniel Amartey later on in the day looked on as an unused substitute as Leicester City secured a point away to Huddersfield Town. Huddersfield and Leicester drew 1-1 with goals from Laurent Depoitre and Jamie Vardy for the respective clubs.
At the same time, we had Christian Atsu making the headlines for the Ghanaian contingent as he played 90 minutes and scored in the process for Newcastle United in a home fixture.
Atsu opened the scoring in the 19th minute as his side eventually won 2-1 over Stoke City at the St James’ Park.
Andre Ayew was simultaneously having a duel at the Hawthorns with his side West Ham United as they came up against West Bromwich Albion.
Slaven Bilic wanted to pull the same trick that ensured West Ham beat Huddersfield at home.
Javier Hernandez came off for Andre Ayew in the 76th minute but unlike the previous game the change had no bearing on the score line as the game ended 0-0.
The last game of the day had Andre’s younger brother feature 90 minutes against Spurs for Swansea.
Jordan Ayew featured for 90 minutes and that saw him have the same fortunes with his brother as Tottenham Hotspurs drew 0-0 with Swansea.
