The Cardiff Blues flanker sustained the issue in a clash of heads with Josh van der Flier during the Welsh region's 16-13 defeat to Leinster on Saturday, casting doubt over his involvement in Wales' November Tests.
A statement released by the Blues on Tuesday confirmed Warburton's injury and revealed he would undergo a procedure to have a small plate inserted in his cheekbone, with a timeframe of "approximately two to four weeks" placed on his recovery.
Wales kick off their autumn programme against Australia in Cardiff on November 5, before taking on Argentina, Japan and South Africa at the Principality Stadium.
