Kings win again, Stars survive fightback

The Los Angeles Kings made it five successive NHL wins after defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday.

A power-play goal from Scott Hartnell and Matt Calvert's strike had the Blue Jackets leading 2-0 in the second period, but Christian Ehrhoff reduced the deficit with less than two minutes remaining in the stanza.

A Jeff Carter goal with 87 seconds left in the third period took the game into OT, before Alec Martinez scored with 27 remaining in the additional period.

The Dallas Stars made it 21 wins in 27 games courtesy of a thrilling 6-5 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Dallas were flying early and scored four goals in a dominant first period.

Jamie Benn was on fire for the Stars, scoring one and setting up two of their four goals.

Jaccob Slavin pulled one back for the Hurricanes early in the second period before Benn made it a hat-trick of assists, this time setting up Valeri Nichushkin.

The Hurricanes came from 5-1 down to level things up 5-5 in the third period, but a power-play goal from Patrick Sharp sealed the win for the Stars with 19 seconds remaining.

Elsewhere, the Arizona Coyotes suffered a fifth straight defeat, beaten 4-1 by the St Louis Blues.

The New York Islanders surrendered a two-goal lead but still managed to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 in a shoot-out.

T.J. Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored in a shoot-out for the Washington Capitals, who edged the Detroit Red Wings 3-2.

Stanley Cup champions the Chicago Blackhawks claimed a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators as forward Patrick Kane extended his point streak to 23 games.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were 3-2 winners over the New Jersey Devils in a shoot-out, the Ottawa Senators saw off the Florida Panthers 4-2, while Michael Frolik and Mikael Backlund scored in the second period as the Calgary Flames accounted for the San Jose Sharks by the same scoreline.
