Black Stars' probable line-up as Avram Grant searches for the right formula
The
Avram Grant goes into the game without his captain Asamoah Gyan as he and his team try to make a statement on their road to Russia.
Egypt top the group going into the second game of the qualifiers after the Black Stars played a bore draw against Uganda at home in their first qualifying game.
For most Ghanaians, the thought of a 6-1 victory ring bells in their ears as the then coach Kwesi Appiah and his men stunned the world on their way to the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.
Egypt will look to fight back especially playing at home. And there’s nothing more they’d want than making a bold statement in a group many pundits believe will come down to Ghana and Egypt.
Black Stars coach Avram Grant would have to go big on attack if he needs the three points in this game considering his team’s performance upfront in the last qualifying game vs Uganda.
Here’s a probable line-up for Avram Grant and his Black Stars team for the game against Egypt.
Goalkeeper
Razak Braimah
Avram Grant will keep most of his usual squad and the goalkeeping role will go in Braimah’s favour ahead of Kwarasey. Wa All Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori for now will just have to do with the experiences he is gaining in the senior national team of Ghana.
Defenders
John Boye will partner Jonathan Mensah at the heart of defence as this is the partnership that has worked for Avram Grant since taking over as Black Stars boss.
Abdul Baba Rahman will keep his place at left full-back with Harrison Afful occupying the opposite side.
Daniel Amartey will have no place at the back of defence. He got in the squad after some great displays for Leicester City in the Premier League and Champions League going into the game against Uganda. The hype has however cooled down.
Midfielders
Afriyie Acquah and Mubarak Wakaso are going to be deployed to do the work at the heart of Ghana’s midfield. Between defending and attacking, they will defend more but will also push forward when the need be.
Andre Ayew and Christian Atsu will be the creative minds to transition Ghana’s defence into attack. Ayew recently returned from injury but his inclusion in the line-up will not be for just his football skills. With Asamoah Gyan not in the team, the Black Stars will need an inspirational leader who can lift team morale. Andre Ayew is just the right person.
Forwards
Jordan Ayew has a place in the line-up. He’s not scoring many goals for Aston Villa recently due to how he’s been deployed. On a very good day for Jordan, look past his sagged shorts, he can get the goals.
Abdul Majeed Waris comes in to support Jordan because the Black Stars will need goals in the game against Egypt.
Waris is a good player. No doubt. Just that he’s been inconsistent many a times. He has no excuse for the game against Egypt.
