The Kayserispor striker is currently in his 14th year with the Black Stars, and has risen to become the nation’s all-time top scorer with an impressive 51 goals in 105 appearances.

However, the 31-year-old has been the subject of criticism from a section of the Ghanaian public, with some calling into question his ability to continuing pulling the strings for the Black Stars upfront.

Gyan has battled with niggling injuries in the last few years, and as a result his form has not been the best for both club and country.

And though he admits to not being at his best, the former Sunderland striker believes he cannot be written off as a finished man.

Gyan told KweseESPN: “The past three years have been very difficult, fitness-wise. I try to use my experience to do a lot of things. Somebody will say, 'he is done,' but I am not done. It is just the circumstances.I started playing for this team in 2003 and I have made my mark."I have been around for a long time. When the Black Stars are playing, everyone expects me to score, which is normal. "It is not easy replacing someone [referring to himself in the third person] who has done so much.”

The Ghana skipper added that his continuous stay with the Black Stars could prove to be beneficial to the upcoming players in the team.

According to him ‘hungry’ players could pick a leaf from his books, adding that just as people paved the way for him, so shall he also leave for others to take his place when the time is due. "Asamoah Gyan is not going to play for the Black Stars forever. There are young, hungry players coming up so we have to encourage them. "People paved the way for me to get here. I have also set the standard for myself and my nation. I have done something for myself and for Ghana. The young ones coming can learn something from it."
