Winning BBC player of the year my biggest achievement- Asamoah Gyan
Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan says 2010 was the best year of his footballing career, stressing that emerging BBC African player of the year remains his biggest achievement till date.
Gyan enjoyed a fruitful year in 2010, leading Ghana to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, before again spearheading the West African nation's quarter-final finish at the World Cup in South Africa.
The striker then moved to Sunderland during the Summer, where he immediately became a fan-favorite after scoring on his debut Premier League game.
The striker has since played in the UAE and China, emerging top-scorer and winning the domestic league in the former country.
But the 31-year-old has now opened up on what he rates as his biggest achievement.
"[My biggest achievement is] winning the BBC African footballer of the year award. And then being the first runner-up in the CAF footballer of the year which Samuel Eto'o won in 2010. I will say 2010 was the best year in my career," Gyan said on Joy Fm.
The Black Stars all-time top-scorer, however, admitted that the 2008/09 season represented the worst period of his career following a series of niggling injuries.
"I think my first season in France [was my lowest point], again the injuries. I think from 2008 to 2009 was quite frustrating. That was when I missed the Black Stars for a whole year. And I scored just one goal in that season."
Gyan has had a glittering career so far, playing in Italy, France and England.
