Ghana defender Daniel Opare started his first Bundesliga game in as many months following his start in Augsburgs 3-0 victory over Koln.

The utility man was handed a rare start at right-back after not making the club's first XI in the opening two league games.

The former Standard Liege man played the full 90 minutes as his club run out as comfortable winners against a hapless Koln side on Saturday.

A pair of goals in the first half by Alfred Finnbogason gave Augsburg an ideal start, and the Icelandic striker completed his hat-trick with another strike in the second half.

Opare joined Augsburg in the summer of 2015 but was farmed out on loan to French Ligue 2 side RC Lens after failing to nail down a starting berth.

However, the last time he started for the club was in May last year, marking an astonishing 16 months since he last featured in the club's starting XI for a Bundesliga game.

The Ghana defender will be hoping to continue playing in the Augsburg first team.
