Dubbed as the ‘Super Clash’, the encounter between the two traditional clubs is the most decorated in the history of Ghana football, with their rivalry spanning over five decades.

Kotoko – having not played since being involved in a tragic accident three weeks ago – will look to gain the bragging rights over the Phobians, in what will be an emotional return to league football.

Speaking ahead of the game, ex-Ghana president John Kufour has called for calm from both set of supporters, insisting he wants to see a “beautiful game” between Kotoko and Hearts on Sunday.

“All over the world people love football. But the thing is that we sometimes forget that it’s just a game and we end up marring it with envy,” the former African Union (AU) Chairman said.

“This time let’s take out the envy and let’s help make the game beautiful. Football is an art, so let’s take out animosity and let’s make the art part show. The game [between Hearts and Kotoko] is supposed to bring happiness and togetherness, and the Super Clash has been played since time immemorial.”

He added that although he has a soft spot for the Porcupine Warriors, he stilled wishes both sides well in Sunday’s Super Clash.

“Today all the regions have teams, so I wish both sides well. I’m a Kotoko fan – I’ve been a chairman of Kotoko before – but I know what Kotoko vs Hearts means.”

Kotoko is currently four points behind Hearts, but have another game in hand against league-leaders WAFA after the Super Clash.
