Head of the medical team of Asante Kotoko, Dr. Michael Leat, has revealed that the club will not risk playing any unfit player when they face rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors have been inactive for the past three weeks due to a fatal accident the team suffered last month.
The Kotoko team bus rammed into a parked Kia truck on the Nkawkaw road after their week-21 meeting with Inter Allies, leading to the death of their equipment officer, Kofi Asare, as well as various injuries to their players.
All affected members have been receiving treatment following the tragic incident, and the club has confirmed they will return to continue with the league this weekend.
Kotoko will face bitter rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday, before taking on WAFA the week after, as they seek to clear their outstanding games.
Ahead of the big clash, the club organized a press conference at the Sports Hotel in Kumasi on Tuesday to brief the public about the current state of affairs, with the medical team revealing that they will not risk any player that is unfit for the Hearts of Oak clash.
"I won't force any player to play when he's not fit. They are OK, that's why we decided to play on Sunday," head of the Porcupine Warriors’ medical team, Dr. Michael Leat, said.
He, however, added that players Ashittey Ollenu and Michael Akuffo have been ruled out of the clash as they continue to recuperate from injuries suffered during the accident.
All the other players, though, have been declared fit for Sunday’s Super Clash, with the club still waiting on the medical report of Emmanuel Gyamfi to decide on his participation.
Coach Steve Polack is also a doubt to be on the Kotoko bench after disclosing that “the doctors will decide whether I should be on the bench or not."
