The Volta regional branch of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) will today begin a strike to demand unpaid salaries and allowances from government, Joys News reports.

National president, Christian Addai Poku has said that they have notified the National Labour Commission of plans to embark on a nationwide industrial action from October 6.
“Government has recruited people and those people have worked for 2-3 years; they have not been paid their arrears. We are also saying that our colleagues who have gone on promotion and their grading has been done but their arrears have not been paid, they must also pay them. We are also saying that vehicle maintenance allowances due some colleagues of ours must be paid. And then our colleagues who were forcibly moved from their various stations to other places against their will, deserve to be paid transfer grants according to our conditions of service which is two months gross salary,” he told Joy News.

Mr Addai Poku stated that government has refused to obey the ruling of the National Labour Commission (NLC) to pay them the arrears.
“National Labour Commission gave a ruling that by 2015, all those things should have been paid. Unfortunately, they have disobeyed the NLC,” he said.
