Plane crashes into sea near Abidjan

The cargo plane is said to have been carrying freight for the French army.

An aircraft has crashed into the sea off Ivory Coast killing four people, shortly after taking off from the international airport of the main city, Abidjan.

The crash occurred during a storm with heavy rain and lightning. The aircraft was thought to be a propeller-driven cargo plane.

Apparent images of the crash circulating in local media showed the plane in pieces in the surf as witnesses and officials arrived.

It was a cargo plane carrying freight for the French army, security sources told local news site Koaci.
