The Parliament of Ghana has given the go-ahead for the government to withdraw over $14 billion from the country’s Consolidated Fund and other government funds to finance development projects.

This comes after Ghana’s Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta presented the 2019 budget and financial statement to Parliament about 2 weeks ago.

In approving the budget, Parliament is expected to endorse the allocations to the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, and then pass the Appropriation Bill.

The Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu said the government failed to achieve its economic targets for 2018 but rather contracted loans over $10 billion within 2 years of office. He added that there was nothing to show for all the loans contracted.

He said that the financial sector is crumbling while other sectors also suffer under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo.

But the Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah- Bonsu said Mr Iddrisu was only playing politics instead of being real. He said the government is managing the economy well.

He explained that in only 2 years of office the economy had picked with improved GDP growth and reduced inflation.

He said the opposition had no point and therefore called on Ghanaians to support the government so their living conditions improve.
