Politician's abode becomes garage for alleged smuggled Mercedes Benz cars

National Security impounds two Benz cars allegedly brought into the country by a businessman in Accra

The cars are valued at $3.2 million and import duties on them are reported to be in the region of GHȻ900,000.

The vehicles were impounded at the residence of Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive, Elliot Edem Agbenorwu, who has denied having any information on the car, citing that even though the house is his official residence, he does not reside there because the house is under renovation.

Mr. Agbenorwu also revealed to myjoyonline.com that he suspected some people of using the premises for some smuggling to her alerted the security who acted to get the smuggled cars.

There was a rumour that the businessman was planning to present one of the cars, a $1.8 million Mercedes Benz 300 SL, to the President, Nana Akufo-Addo as a bribe in order to escape paying duty on the cars, a claim which has been found to be false.

Customs officials are still investigating the matter.
