Stacey Abrams told the hosts of " The View " that "of course" she'd accept a nomination to be the Democrats' vice presidential candidate in 2020.

  • "It would be doing a disservice to every woman of color, every woman of ambition, every child who wants to think beyond their known space for me to say no or to pretend, 'Oh, no, I don't want it,'" Abrams said.
  • But, she noted, none of the remaining eight candidates has asked her to be their running mate.
  • Abrams had previously rebuffed suggestions that she'd run as a VP candidate, saying, "I think you don't run for second place."

Stacey Abrams told the hosts of ABC's " The View " Monday morning that "of course" she'd accept an offer to run as the 2020 Democratic vice presidential candidate.

Host Whoopi Goldberg noted that today is President's Day and told Abrams, "While you're not running at the moment ... a lot of people want to see you on that ticket, first as vice president."

Abrams explained that while she had previously ruled out running for VP saying "I think you don't run for second place," also on "The View" in March 2019 she now says she's open to it.

She added: "It would be doing a disservice to every woman of color, every woman of ambition, every child who wants to think beyond their known space for me to say no or to pretend, 'Oh, no, I don't want it.' Of course I want it. Of course I want to serve America. Of course I want to be a patriot and do this work. And so, I'd say yes."

But, Abrams noted, none of the still-standing candidates has reached out to her with such an offer.

Abrams was the minority leader of the Georgia House of Representatives and narrowly lost a bid to be the state's governor in 2018. She is the first African-American woman to win a major party's nomination for governor.

A March 2019 Insider poll found that Abrams could be one of the 2020 Democrats' most sought-after endorsements. However, she has thus far declined to bestow her blessing on any of the contenders running to take on President Donald Trump .
