Coco Gauff is surging through the Australian Open and says her teachers are cutting the 15-year-old slack on schoolwork 'considering the circumstances'

Coco Gauff is once again taking the world of tennis by storm.

The 15-year-old stunned defending champion and world No. 3 Naomi Osaka in the third round of the Australian Open Friday. And while the feat is undoubtedly worthy of celebrating, Gauff has more pressing things to take care of.

Namely homework.

In her post-game interview Friday, Gauff spoke about her experience taking online classes while competing at the highest level of tennis. And fortunately, her teachers have been accommodating of her unique situation.

"My teachers are giving me some time considering the circumstances," Gauff said to the delight of the crowd in Rod Laver Arena. "They're letting me submit some assignments late, so that's okay."

At the very least, Gauff was willing to give herself the rest of the night off. When her interviewer asked about her schoolwork, Gauff said she'd hit the books "probably tomorrow."

"Because I want to go to sleep tonight," she said.

Gauff catapulted into the tennis mainstream after taking down then-world No. 44 Venus Williams in straight sets in her main draw debut at Wimbledon in 2019. She made a Cinderella run all the way to the fourth round of the tournament, where she lost to eventual champion Simona Halep.

The teenager followed up that incredible effort with another hot streak at the US Open, where she cruised to the third round before losing to then-world No. 1 Naomi Osaka. And now she's making a remarkable run during yet another Grand Slam. She's defeated Williams and now Osaka en route to a fourth-round matchup against world No. 15 Sofia Kenin Saturday.
