The Ghanaian government wants to transform the country into a business hub with this $100 million strategy

The government of Ghana has projected to use $100 million to transform the country into a business hub.

The commitment will be made through a number of strategies that will improve the county’s economy.

The government said it had started work on improving local business. This is seen as a priority because the local businesses generate huge income to the country.

According to the country’s minister of Business Development, Mr. Ibrahim Awal, the government’s top priority is to make Ghana a number one business nation at least in West Africa.

The minister was speaking at a meeting he had with various Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of some companies in the country.

These CEOs who are also members of the UK- Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) together with the minister deliberated on strategies that can be generated to drive businesses in Ghana.

The meeting also saw in attendance some other members of the UKGCC from telecoms, logistics, legal and business associations and this gave the CEOs the opportunity to interact and share ideas about their businesses with them.

Mr. Awal while addressing the business tycoons revealed that the ministry will launch a National Employment and Implementation Plan, a capacity building programme of about $100 million that will equip the youth in various fields to acquire entrepreneurial skills.

According to him, “a criteria has been rolled out for the implementation of the ‘One District, One Factory’ initiatives as part of government strategies in building the economy,” adding that, government is implementing initiative considering the raw materials and also employing the local people of such areas.”

The minister disclosed that, 70 per cent of public funded projects would be given to Ghanaians and that, 10 per cent would also be directed to startups.

He then promised that, the companies will have some tax relieves.

The  Former President of UKGCC, Mr Tony Burkson, who was present at the meeting, adding his voice, congratulated the government for its work on improving the Ghanaian businesses, and on pleaded with the government to implement an internal policy that would protect local businesses from multinationals penetration pervading form others.
