Is a win for Trump victory for Nana Addo?

If Trump wins the NPP will start using the Trump card on their campaign platforms. They will make all the arguments from party ideologies to donor funds.

These two parties have also had the political parties that share the same ideologies with them in America govern at the same years as they have.

From 1992 to 2001 former President Jerry John Rawlings was president of Ghana on the ticket of the NDC while former President Bill Clinton was president on the ticket of the Democrats.

The wind of change blew in the 2000 election. In 2001, Ghana swore in John Agyekum Kufuor of the NPP. They share similar ideologies with the Republicans who won the elections around that time in America. Former President George Bush was sworn in.

In 2008 Ghana elected President John Mills of the NDC, and America elected Barrack Obama as president both were democrats. Due to his demise, President Mills did not complete his first term in office and the then Vice President John Mahama continued and also contested for president in the 2012 elections.

President Mahama won the 2012 election and so did Obama secure a second term in America.

From this trend does it mean a win for Trump is a win for the NPP in Ghana?

The Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur during a campaign at the University of Cape Coast accused the NPP on embarking on what he described as a ‘Trumpian’ campaign. He said this was because they saw no good in the NDC.

President Mahama also on a campaign tour mentioned that by investing heavily in socioeconomic infrastructure, he is already doing what Hillary Clinton promises to do if she becomes president.

However, the NPP has refrained from campaigning using the Trump or Clinton card. Perhaps because they are not certain Trump will win.

Is this a win for Nana Addo?

In Ghana, every president who has governed so far have had a second term in office except President Mills who died before he could complete his first term in office.

President Mahama is yet to enjoy the ‘status quo’ of a second term. But the argument of the NPP has been that the NDC has enjoyed two terms in office no matter who led the government in those tenures.

If Trump wins the NPP will start using the Trump card on their campaign platforms. They will make all the arguments from party ideologies to donor funds.

A win for Trump may not necessarily mean victory for Nana Addo but it will play a significant role in who wins Ghana’s election.
