Addressing members of the NDC in Koforidua as part of his five-day tour of the Eastern Region, the ex-president said his issue is with the double track system introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration.

Former president John Mahama has rejected claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is against the free Senior High School programme and will cancel the programme when voted back to power in 2020.

Mr Mahama, who is campaigning to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the 2020 election, said the will not cancel the free SHS policy as being claimed by officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

“I know the benefits of education to the fortunes of development and so NDC would provide the necessary infrastructure to accommodate all students at once,” the GNA quoted him as saying.
The former President said his party started the free SHS programme with day students and was working gradually to provide the required infrastructure to accommodate the students and could therefore not kick against it.
He warned that the double track arrangement under the free SHS could destroy the quality of the country’s education.
